Upper West Side Relaxcation

Tribeca is chic, LES is more and Brooklyn is booming. Sometimes in our haste to find the latest and greatest we forget about the tried and true. So, instead of heading to DUMBO or the Meatpacking District last week, I decided to reacquaint myself with the Upper West Side. From movies under the stars at Riverside Park to picnics in Central Park, concerts at Lincoln Center and an afternoon at the Museum of Natural History, there was so much to do.
Base camp for my stay was the newly renovated Hotel Belleclaire. The conveniently located hotel (77th and Broadway) marries historic charm and modern amenities perfectly.
The lobby welcomes guests with a soaring 40 foot skylight above and original mosaic tile floors below. Contemporary touches include plush guest rooms with amenities like flat screen TVs, Frette linens and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Setting itself apart from cookie-cutter chains, the Belleclaire's Happy Hour (really Happy Hour) takes place outside the front door. Instead of the usual wings in a chafing dish, a food truck pulls up to dispense complimentary treats. The offerings change seasonally and the day's offering of Yo Go frozen yogurtwas the perfect pick me up for a 100+ degree day.
Eating opportunities run the gamut from super store, Zabars, to casual bistros and chic gourmet dining. Newcomer Corvo Bianco, the brainchild of star chef, Elizabeth Falkner – Chopped and Iron Chef fame –– serves up innovative Italian coastal cuisine. The stunning space includes a large handsome bar with an intriguing menu of signature cocktails and bites. A foodies delight!
